The Triangle and Its Properties
Medians and altitudes of a triangle, exterior angle property of a triangle, angle sum property of a triangle, two special triangles (equilateral & isosceles), sum of lengths of two sides, and Pythagoras property in right-angled triangles.
Comparing Quantities
Equivalent ratios, percentage as another way of comparing, converting fractions and decimals to percentage, profit and loss percentages, and simple interest formula (I = PRT/100).
Rational Numbers
Need for rational numbers, positive and negative rational numbers, representation on number line, rational numbers in standard form, comparison, rational numbers between two rational numbers, and arithmetic operations.
Practical Geometry
Construction of parallel lines through an external point, construction of triangles using SSS, SAS, ASA, and RHS congruence criteria.
Perimeter and Area
Perimeter and area of squares and rectangles, area of a parallelogram (Base × Height), area of a triangle (1/2 × Base × Height), circumference and area of a circle (πr²), and conversion of units.
Algebraic Expressions
How expressions are formed, terms of an expression, coefficients, like and unlike terms, monomials, binomials, trinomials, and polynomials, addition and subtraction of expressions, and finding values of expressions.
Exponents and Powers
Exponential notation, laws of exponents: aᵐ × aⁿ = aᵐ⁺ⁿ, aᵐ ÷ aⁿ = aᵐ⁻ⁿ, (aᵐ)ⁿ = aᵐⁿ, aᵐ × bᵐ = (ab)ᵐ, expressing large numbers in standard scientific notation.
Symmetry and Visualising Solid Shapes
Lines of symmetry for regular polygons, rotational symmetry (centre of rotation, angle of rotation, order of symmetry), 2D representations of 3D shapes, oblique and isometric sketches, and viewing sections of solids.
